Meet the Udall-Martin Associates TeamWho We Are

Our staff and associate ecologists are all members of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and work in accordance with their Code of Practice. Susie Udall (Consultancy Manager) is also a Chartered Environmentalist through the Society of the Environment. Our staff continue to expand and up-date their skills through structured Career Professional Development training. We are passionate about ecology and aim to promote nature conservation and biodiversity benefits wherever possible. We have proven technical ability and experience.

Susie Udall BA (Hons) MSc MIEEM CEnv

Susie is Director and Consultancy Manager of Udall-Martin Associates Ltd. and is an ecologist with over ten years professional experience within the ecological sector. She is qualified to Masters degree level with an MSc in Environmental Management from Nottingham University. She is a full member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and works in accordance with their Code of Practice and is a Chartered Environmentalist through the Society for the Environment.

Susie’s responsibilities are project management, ecological survey and assessment, report writing and business planning and development. Previously she has worked as a freelance ecological consultant and also at a successful East Midlands based consultancy for eight years, where she was Principal Ecologist for the last two years. Susie holds current Natural England survey licences for great crested newt and white-clawed crayfish.

Susie’s experience is wide ranging and extensive. Her specialisms include project management, ecological assessment (including Extended Phase-1 habitat survey), management planning and protected species work including for bats, great crested newt, reptiles, water vole and white-clawed crayfish. She has worked on a range of projects including ecological work for education, housing, leisure, mineral workings, pipelines, power stations and transport.

Susie recently produced an Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) for works to Leawood railway aqueduct (a Scheduled Ancient Monument) on Cromford Canal Site of Special Scientific Interest. Susie was project manager of a five-year ecological framework contract with Severn Trent Water, involving carrying out ecological assessments and providing ad hoc ecological services. She also carried out an ecological impact assessment (EcIA) for the laying of a 12km water pipeline on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border.

Dwayne Martin

Dwayne is Company Director and Consultant Ecologist at Udall-Martin Associates Ltd. and is an ecologist and landscaper with a combined 15 years professional experience within the ecological and landscaping sectors.  He has attended numerous vocational training courses both with the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) and independent consultants throughout the UK. These include courses for bat, badger, great crested newt, reptile and water vole survey and mitigation and botanical survey. He has a certificate in Biological Recording through Birmingham university and is an affiliate member of IEEM and works in accordance with their Code of Practice.

Dwayne’s responsibilities are protected species surveys, designing mitigation, implementing on-site mitigation and compensation works, Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW), landscaping and business planning and development. He was previously a self employed ecologist and landscaper/ organic gardener. He holds a current Level 2 Natural England class survey licence for bats and a level 1 class  survey licence for great crested newts and is working towards a hazel dormouse survey licence. Dwayne is also Natural Resources Wales licenced for bats, great crested newts and water voles.

Dwayne’s specialisms include protected species work including survey and on-site mitigation, landscaping, habitat management and maintenance and fencing works. He has particular experience with bat, great crested newt, reptiles and water vole surveys and mitigation including working on several large-scale mitigation projects as well as small projects for home owners.. He has provided on-site ECoW and supervision and advice for bats, nesting birds, reptiles, great crested newt and Japanese knotweed for a series of development sites throughout England and Wales.

Associate Ecologists

We have a large team of associate ecologists who are specialists in their field, including several bat experts (with current Natural England, Natural Resources Wales, and Scottish Natural Heritage bat licences), reptile, ornithologists, invertebrate experts and lower plant surveyors. All our associates are highly skilled and experienced, some of whom have published work in national journals and written and/or contributed to distribution atlases. All associates are members of IEEM and work in accordance with their Code of Practice.
